Huskies for a minute.

Well, what can I say about what transpired last night in Oregon? I can say pretty much one positive thing about that game. Jake Locker sure can run! Yep, that's it. He threw like Rick Meyer and Ran like Vince Young. What is this kid's IQ. Did he score a 7 on the wonderlic test too? The Huskies need some serious help. I couldn't even watch! I focused all my time on the BBQ and the Carne Asada... Oregonians are going to be gloating about this and the Sonics for the next thirty years...Damn! END...

Roster Set....For now.

The Seahawk roster is set. Who made the cut? Well just take a look at the evidence right here. I, for one, am surprised that Bumpus did not make the cut. I thought he had a great game last night and has shown that he can play at this level. Look for Cinci to sign him soon. If he doesn't go to Cinci, he will go somewhere else, and fast.

We all knew guys like Kirtman and Joe Newton and Trent Shelton would be cut, but I thought Reggie Hodges might have a chance to take over for Fudge Pack because Pack isn't that impressive. Obviously the coaches saw something most of us didn't.After last night I had a feeling the Hawks would place Obamonu on Injured Reserves so that no other teams could snatch him up. He is obviously going to be a late season acquisition at some point. I think the Hawks favored Obamanu over Courtney Taylor and the injury forced the hawks to go the IR route... Bold statement I know but Ben has more experience with this team and he is a little more physical than Taylor. Taylor has great ATC (after the catch) skills though so we will have to see what becomes of this. Well study film Old Ben and work hard Courtney because you may still end up having to fight for a roster spot.

I was excited to hear that both T.J. Duckett and Forsett made the team. I would much rather have both weapons available. Good luck on a great career to Justin, Jordan, Hawthorne, LoJack and many others... After all this excitement, I think the biggest surprise has to be: The decision to keep two Kickers. Never have I seen a Kicker tandem. Maybe they are not entertaining the idea of "KBC" (Kicker by committee), or maybe they are. We will just, have to wait and see. That's all folks; for now...END

Coutu, Mare, which one is in?

After watching a five field goal performance on Saturday. I would say Brandon Coutu is ready to kick field goals for this team. Olino Mare is a solid vet but what is he still doing here? We need the roster spots to fill some holes we still have on Offense and Special teams. Why not get rid of this aging kicker and make room for some team needs? I don't know what Holmgren is considering when it comes to this position battle. Maybe he thinks that Coutu might not be ready, or maybe he thinks Mare still has something left in the tank. Either way, I think a decision has to be made fast. Otherwise we are left with another roster spot that doesn't get filled in time to start the season. This is pressing as on now because Sean Locklear is now hurt. This offense will suffer terribly if we don't do something soon. I know Holmgren has faith in his coach's abilities to teach effectively but coaching alone won't send this team to the Superbowl....END.

Seahawks vs Bears recap....

Mike Holmgren is no longer worried about the return game because he has bigger fish to Frye. Seahawks played the Bears at Qwest Field on Saturday August 16th. Both teams had an overall dismal performance. This game was a defensive game for sure, well for the Hawks anyway. The Seattle defense looked great against the Bears. The front seven blitzed Grossman on almost every play. It was obvious the Seahawks had no respect for the offensive line of the Bears. Grossman was sacked once and even made an intentional grounding penalty rather than taking the sack. All in all he had a bad day; ending with a 9-15 with only 74 whopping yards.
Kyle Orton, didn't do too much better. Kyle did lead them into overtime whereas, Rex would have crumbled under the rolling pin that is the Seahawk's Defensive Front Seven.

The Seahawk's offense didn't really show a lot of promise behind the arm of Charlie Frye. Three interceptions and 209 yards; big stink fest by Frye. We had a couple close calls on some really big plays down field but the receivers (I. E. Kent, Taylor) couldn't hall them in. John Carlson made some rookie mistakes (false starts); Holmgren hates false starts enough that players remember the snap count just to avoid his rampage afterward. I guess Johnny didn't get that memo from the other players. Charlie Frye did hook up with Jordan Kent for a couple of catches totaling 50 yards with a long of 23.Logan Payne finally showed me something worth mentioning. Frye hit him four times for 38 yards with a long of 14. Neither receivers had a TD catch. Lastly, Brandon Coutu was the shining star in this OT win. Brandon Coutu hit 5 out of 5 with his longest of 48. Coutu counted for 17 points.

Honorable mentions: LeRoy Hill, who is consistently getting better, had a big night with a sack, a couple of hurries an interception. We need to sing him RIGHT NOW. Josh Wilson with a couple of great coverage plays. Trufant, for showing he is not afraid to take out a big TE. Duckett??? with a TD and 27 HARD yards. He had 12 carries and only 27 yrds people...Cut Him. Last but not least, My boy from Wa St. Michael Bumpus. The guy had two nice catches for 29 yards. Little side note. Forsett is one of this weak's rushing leaders. Look Out, this season should be exciting. End.

Forcast is: Forsett for 53!!!!!

Inside of Madam Jezebel's crystal ball shines the future of Justin Forsett and the Seattle Seahawks. I believe this kid has no shot of being cut from this roster. After what I saw in his second debut showing Holmgren can't let this guy slip to another team with needs in the return game or at running back. Forsett has vision, toughness, speed, acceleration, and hands. I have not seen a back on this team with so much talent since "Curt Warner, who led the AFC in rushing as a rookie in 1983 with 1,449 yards". Now, I am not saying Forsett is going to be setting records or anything in his rookie year, but I am saying this kid has that kind of talent. In Saturday's game he had 136 yards on 16 rushing attempts with one TD. He could be a backup RB or a returner at this point. If he applies his talents to the return game, he could be as good if not better than Devon Hester. At running back he is reminiscent of Maurice Jones Drew; only better. Forsett is strong too; he can bench something like 320+ pounds. For a guy that's 5'8" and 194 that is a lot of weight to be lifting. He has tremendous upper body strength to go along with his speed. I think some jersey's need to be made! I predict a sellout in the first day. I can't wait to see more of this kid. You know what? I just might get my wish. End...

Little Blurb about today...

I am not going to post much other than the following. Charlie Frye is going to be starting! I would look to see a whole bunch of Julius Jones and Justin Forsett. I think Forsett's performance in the last game and at the scrimmage and practices has impressed the coaches over the course of the preseason. In fact, I am going out on a limb here and saying that I think the Seahawks end up cutting T.J. Duckett in favor of Justin Forsett. At this point the hawks need someone fast, who can take a hit, return punts. Now that Burleson is the NO1 Receiver, someone has to take over the return job. The team just can't risk injury to their only starting returning WR. Frankly they would be foolish not to protect him. The main question here is, what ramifications in terms of salary cap will Duckett's release cause? According Clare Farnsworth on his blog. Duckett is set to make around $2 million this year, $2 million next year and $1 million the following year with about $1.4 million incentives. I do beleive he has a salary cap penalty for being cut from the roster that would affect the cap in 2008 as well. Only $3 million dollars, This wouldn't HURT as much as it would help the Seahawks. I am all for having some great short yardage backs but that is what Weaver and Shmitt are for. Lets free up some roster room to better this offense and special teams. Lord knows we need it. hell, Duckett's release may open up the opportunity for another free agent signing. You never know....

Obviously the Wide Receiver show is going to be fun to watch as well. There is a lot of competition out there. Here are a few of the front runners in my eyes as of now. Jordan Kent with his size, strength and route running ability, has a real shot at being a Seahawk. Michael Bumpus impressed last week but I think he will have to step up a little more in tonight's game to make a real impression on the coaches. If he can get 40-50 yards and a touchdown tonight and doesn't drop anything I think he has a chance. I have yet to see much from Courtney Taylor other than in practice and scrimmage so I am on the fence with this guy, even though he is all the hype with the fans. Joel Filani might end up on the practice squad because we are thin at WR; don't expect much else. Other than that I am going to be enjoying the game from the comfort of my seat screaming my head off. If you are going to the game have fun and pay attention because the excitement is just getting underway....END....

Chris Spencer will watch Vallos again....

The Back Injury can linger, as I have said before, and Chris Spencer's "back pain" is still affecting him. Danny O'Neil posted " He just can't do some stuff now", Holmgren said "The PAIN won't let him". That may sound like the hopes of our offense going down the tubes to some. I for one, am a little worried but I am starting to like Steve Vallos. This kid has numerous ACCOLADES on his resume and a ton of stats. Vallos, a home native of Broadman Ohio. Red shirted as a freshman in 2002 For Wake Forest after a stellar high school performance; awarded with all Ohio honors in multiple sports. His impressive showing in the 34-17 win over the vikings Shows this kid can play. You have to smart to be a center in the WCO "west coast offense" with all of the protection packages and blocking schemes. If the QB is the Captain; the Center is his First Mate. TR scouted him hard enough to DRAFT him in 07. We all know what kind of guys Tim Ruskell likes to draft. So, is there a chance they were planning for a "strong backup" at the center position? Is it possible that is something the Hawks saw in Steve Vallos? I for one am anxious to see if he can repeat his debut performance, at what seems to be his new position. End...


Hey TR let's Kick It....Feeley style....

This is just hot off the wire of sports talk radio KJR 950AM. Bill Parcells released veteren Kicker Jay Feeley. We here is Seattle know Jay pretty well. The three missed field goals in the 2005 Giants game at qwest field was probably the most memorable moment for us Seahawk fans. This release comes as a surprise because Feeley has been improving on his FG percentage over the last three years; not to mention that last year alone he went 21 for 23 over the course of the season setting a single season team record. I say lets pull the trigger on this guy. Release Mare and sign Feeley here. That way we have a steady foot to kickoff the season with a strong footed rookie to sail under his wing. Tell me what you guys think...END.

Tubbs Waived...Good by...

Mike Sando is reporting over at the NFCWEST blog on espn.com that the Seahawks just waived DT Marcus Tubbs. Tubbs was an injury thorn in the side of the Seahawks ever since drafting him back in 04. Holmgren probably thought we would have more luck going into the season with the guys we have healthy but with Red Bryant hurt too this may be an opportunity to pick up a Free Agent to fill that void. Only question is, who is available at this point? More to come later in the evening. END....

Line up Defense...

Scooping up offensive players like a hoover vacuum on Friday night were the backup defensive ends for the Seattle defense. Lawrence Jackson had a total of 3 tackles; all solo, one of them being a sack forcing John David Booty to fumble the ball allowing Jason Babin to recover. Jason Babin, recording 5 solo tackles including a sack was just as dominant against Minnesota's front line. This gives the Seattle Seahawks some vicious depth at the Defensive End position. Kerney and Tapp holding the starting positions (for now) and LoJack and Babin as backups...Can anyone say brick wall? This defensive line has potential to be named among the leagues elite. With Howard Greens performance, I think the interior line has potential to be the best period. If Tubbs stays healthy and we continue to get good play from Rockie Bernard there is no telling what this D-Line is capable of. Add some pro bowl linebackers and some talented guys in the secondary and you've got a super bowl caliber Defense. Now, the defense did look a little weak against the pass, allowing only 52 rushing yards and a wopping 246 passing yards. but I think that has a lot to do with the defense running it's game plan and not adjusting to the pass quick enough. I don't think Mora expected Tavaris Jackson to come out firing. Even with some miss communication and some over commitment to the run, the defense held it's own against a budding young offense in the Vikings. Seattle recovered four fumble; causing five, and Howard green's interception make five total take aways... Not bad at all. Even with that performance I would look for some major improvements from the defense when the Bears come to town. So, gear up and get ready for a good ole fashion slug fest next Saturday. The Bears are a strong run-stopping defense with pro bowl players; as are we. Should be exciting....END....

Needs and Wants.

Well, one thing is for sure; Mike holmgren wants more from these guys. I was watching the replay of the game. (DVR is great). I was looking at Mike on the sidelines right after that delay of game penalty on 4th and 6, that forced us back 5 yards and we had to settle for a kickoff. Mike was specifically trying to force a first down in a 4Th and short situation. Miss-cues and mishaps in the huddle and translation of play specifics hurt the team more than people realize. The sure fact that Holmgrens face was more red than Rudolf's seemed to be a pretty good indication of his feelings about that penalty. I was particularly moved because in an early comment I made on SA. I think it went a little along the lines of "Lame duck season my ass, I would look for Holmgren to be a little more unpredictable. A couple of go for it on 4th and 1's and maybe a fake field goal". Mike showing such emotion really helped me affirm my previous thought on his game plan. In the past Holmgren would have been like "well we got the FG" but he would have had a quiet talk with the player who spoiled the attempt. I am excited about what is going to come out of this season's play book.

Just an FYI: No. I think I am not trying to be an asshole anymore. I really want to be recognized as a writer and a seahawk fan. Most of all a decent Father....Love you Audrey.

Off the subject of football for just a moment to celebrate the life of Actor/ Comedian Bernie Mac; who died this morning due to complication from pneumonia. Bernie Mac was 50 years old. You will be missed.....END....

Good showing...Of Course...

My affirmations were confirmed last night when the Seahawks had a good showing in the pre-season opener. The Nay-Sayers in the press continually regurgitating the same old song and dance over and over again. 2008 is going to be a lame duck season because Mike Holmgren is on his way out and Mora is taking over head coaching duties. In addition, the "east coast bias" media seems to think we have a wide receiver problem. After reviewing last night's win, I think they will be saying we have too much talent. I know, I know, most of you still think this team is going to take a big shit in the middle of the season and won't make the playoffs. I think that is a premature assessment of a team, while under Holmgrens tutelage, has won five strait NFC WEST titles and of course a Superbowl appearance in 2005. Don't fret my friends because we Seattle-Ites are going to have our cake and eat it too. Just wait and see...

There was great play from some of the players last night: I definitely think the young receivers came out to make this team. Kent was strong and impressive in his routes. Trent Shelton surprised me with a touchdown pass rifled in by Seneca Wallace. Mo Morris is showing us his performance last year was not a fluke and he intends on improving on that. Julius Jones did not impress me as much as I would have liked, but then again he didn't see that many touches. I know he has the ability; I just want to see it. Seneca Wallace looked more patient than in recent years. I believe he has settled into the fact that he is a backup QB and he is now showing that he can be a starter if the unthinkable happens. For me this last one made a real impression on me. David Hawthorne was a true standout player. I counted at least four solo tackles and he forced two fumbles with crushing hits. this guy is definitely going to make the team if he continues to have intense play and great run pursuit. I have to say I was impressed with Lo Jack as well. I had not seen him play that much at USC and I must say that guy has got a motor. He ran down John David Booty like he was going to take a bite of his booty. Overall, the defense could have done a little better against the pass but I think the defense was more focused on their game plan and didn't expect Tavaris Jackson to show out so well. I was surprised to see Trufant blow a couple of plays. right after I buy your jersey too, thanks. I know he will be better and is better than that. After all, it's only pre-season. Right?

After seeing the youg players in action, I am looking forward to this season and I strongly believe we have a real shot at the Superbowl again. I will part for now with some honorable mentions....Michael Bumpus from WAZZU, Jeb Putzier (good speed for a tight end), Will Heller, Kevin Hobbs, Justin Forsett, Joel Filani (touchdown), Lance Laury (intensity), Matt Hass (high standard), and last but not least; Brandon Coutu for showing that Josh Brown is not the only kicker in the league who can tackle. Stay in St. Louis you cry baby highest paid kicker. I am upset that I share the same initials as you. Oh well were good at the Kicker position.

Ladies and Gentlmen start you season...kind of...

Well get your favorite beer, chips, steak, and if your like me, you will have your notebook handy. This is a matter of who gets exposure and most of all; touches in a game. So sit back and watch what could be one of the most exciting match ups for us in the pre-season. Look for some new formations from the Vikings. I think they will be running a lot more from an I formation in order to give Peterson some much needed blocking, all the while trying several other combinations surrounding that formation. The defense will adapt. KICKOFF........

Hey! Green Bay... do the Jets a Favre...

Oh how the might hath fallen... I say this because something in Brett Favre's mind allowed him to try to come back to Green Bay after deciding to retire only months after losing in the NFC Championship to the Giants. Sobbing like a Baby he told everyone he didn't have any more to give to the game of football... I am paraphrasing of course, but how does someone make such a hasty decision so early in the off-season when emotions linger about like a taco fart. Such emotions are common for a high caliber player who feels like he just lost a life and death situation and that can follow a player all the way to training camp. Favre broke the rule for aging veteran's in the off-season; he retired before the first mini-camp. He should have waited to see if he truly had nothing left before breaking the hearts of his fans and then toying with them by coming back, but wanting to play for another team. Favre, my disenfranchised old nemesis of sorts, you are about to begin the end of your career...In New York...Good luck country boy.

My did you ever kick yourself in the nuts on this one Green Bay! Not just the front office of the Packers organization, but the city of Green Bay and majority owners of the Packers as well. I think that something could have been done. Now I bet there will be a clause in trades involving legends in Green Bay, that is if the ever produce another one. What is to become of Aaron Rodgers and the chemistry, or lack there of, between him and his receivers? Maybe he will find a way to demand the attention and respect of his team mates in the huddle, or maybe he will stink to high heaven and get his position taken away by a rookie QB...or even worse....Chad Pennington. Good luck Packers because when you meet the 12th man on the 12th of October you will surely need it. END....

Special Teams Report

What is so special about special teams this year? Well the Hawks have some options as far as the return game is concerned. If Justin Forsett makes the final cuts I would look for him to return some punts while Burleson fills up the much needed 2nd or 3rd receiver spot. I would like to see some guys back there with some speed as well. Will the real Josh Wilson please stand up. That is if you can muster up the athletic ability to make this team this year. With Hobbs and Babs in the mix for the backup corner spots or the Nickel back spot, that leaves little room for a guy who has great speed to make the defensive squad. Where would he fit in the roster. Well, we all have seen what Josh can do in the return game, so why not make him a special teams guy? That is where his talent lies anyway. Save Burleson some decision making at that position and let Wilson return kicks and punts. That way Nate can focus on the task at hand: running great routes and catching balls from Matt. I tend to think a little more on the conscientious side and play it safe when it comes to this type of subject but I don't make decisions on the team. I would however, like to see the common sense that we all know Holmgren possesses to take a back seat to some spontaneity in certain situations. I.E. 4th and 1, short yardage red zone situations or maybe even a fake filed goal or two. Whether that will happen or not still remains to be seen. For now you can ponder this question. What is it that the Seahawks possess that is of great value to the fans of Seattle?...END.

Back In The Saddle Again...

Hello, to my loyal readers. Pssshhhh; right, like I have any. Well this is a Welcome Back Cotter message to those of you who might just check to see if I ever post anything on here. I have been to involved in my life lately to focus on the blog. I had a baby! Well, not me of course; my fiance did though. She, yes it was a girl if you couldn't tell, is beautiful. She already has two Seahawk's Jerseys. I will do a little more writing now that the season is upon us. I am a full believer in true writing and that is what I promise. Hopefully I can temp some of the fans of our beloved Seahawks rival teams to join us for some healthy, heated conversation regarding the potential greatness of our respected hometown hero's. Thus making this site a fun-filled joy ride of bad language and obscene anecdotes coupled with a little bit of strait seahawk news. Until the daybreak...
