Wide out....With out.

I know all of this business with Lofa has been getting a lot of press around the northwest but I still think we have a more serious situation with the WR corp.

Yes Bobby Engram is holding out on voluntary mini-camps but will he hold out when it comes time to show the young guys what this game is all about in training camp. Sure, voluntary mini-camps can be missed without peril or much consequences. What about training camp? Sure guys hold out on training camp an awful lot in the NFL for many reasons but Money is usually the segway for these holdouts. Unless you are Walter Jones and have an amazing work out regimen and can come in and contribute without participating in training camp than you should be participating along with everyone else on the team. Afterall, there is no I in team right.

With a situation like Engram's you have to look at it from a fan's point of view first because hell the fans want to see everyone play and start off the year with the porper preperations. Secondly, I think you have to look at it from the players point of view. Put yourself in Engram's shoes, would you like it if a mediocre wideout like Burleson and a WR who can't really seem to get going at an elite level "Branch" got paid more than you, Especially when those players haven't been with the team as long as you? Lastly, I think you owe it to yourself to look at it from the view of the Front Office. What is going to happen if the Hawks give Bobby more money? Will he play up to the standards that a pay increase demands? How will this translate to touchdowns and catches for Bobby? These, among others, are the questions the front office will be asking themselves.

So what next? Do the hawks give in to the requests of Engram or do they simply say your not worth it and risk losing a solid WR who has been very productive for them? This is a hard one to swallow all at once. "that's what she said" END...

Bobby, bobby, bobby, Digi, Digi, Digi.....

I think it is high time I weighed in on the Bobby Engram situation. Most of you are tired of hearing the same old song and dance from WR's in this league. Well this situation is unlike most of the other situations you have seen in the past. This is not a matter of whether or not Engram is good enough to deserve a raise in pay. Bobby is good enough to merit a pay increase. The thing that separates Engram's situation from the rest is that Engram is not a cocky flash receiver who is whining because he doesn't get the ball enough. He is not crying about the team losing. He also is not on bad terms with the coaching staff. These are all common factors of the situations around the league in which most of you are comparing Engrams current situation with. I want all of you to answer one question. Who has been the most solid player in the last six years (excluding the thyroid condition). If you don't answer Bobby Engram then you are watching a different team. Now I said the most solid player period but obviously we are not comparing Engram to Hasselbeck. Engram is a first down machine. He is the most consistent receiver in the whole NFC west if you ask me and I would have to make an argument that he could be one of the all time greats. He has proven his worth and I think Ruskell should look at the scenario as if Bobby was going to lead this team to a Superbowl, because he is the only veteran WR on this team who has the most to offer to the younger guys in terms of knowledge. This guy could even go on to be a WR coach in this league after his playing career is over. Cut the guy some slack and try to remember what he has done for this team. Keeping the lead vet receiver happy is now a priority, or at least it should be. End...

Movement like this is normal....

I know you all have been reading about the Hawks releasing Brown and signing Filani and the other movements the Hawks have made in the last couple of days. This I will tell you know is normal. Especially when you have a lot of WR's to look at. With Payne, Obamanu, Kent and now Brown and Filani all trying to win a spot on this team you are going to have massive competition. With veteran mini camps being held now there is a rational to why the Hawks release Brown. He is a rookie so they released him to allow for a veteran WR to come in and tryout. This is going to happen a couple more times at least with a couple of players I bet. This is what gives the coaches the ability to focus more time on the individual positions and the guys trying out for that position. This definitely makes for some great conversation though, doesn't it? End.

Alexander: Options?

Shaun Alexander may actually have some gentlemen callers, or suitors, if you will. It is a rare thing when you see Adam Schefter talking about anything Seahawks related. Oh wait, I just realized that Alexander is no longer affiliated with the hawks so he is now considered news worthy. Well either way here is the DANCE that is Alexanders so called coming out party. 2 years too late to me! End.

New site new people......

I want to hold open tryouts if you will for this blog. Simply put, I work 50hr weeks and am starting a family in less than 2months. I need contributors to the site. I want new blood and some old blood too. I want to extend this invitation to you all. I want all of your sample posts anything football related. Just send them to jeremyshawnbrown@yahoo.com. Nothing fancy just a two paragraph sample of your writings. This can make this site jump off if we collect about 10 to 15 new contributors. So if you want a free voice and to have it heard send me some stuff. I will be waiting for your e-mails. Thanks all. End.

Windy City Woes...

Cedric Benson was ARRESTED on two misdemeanor charges. First off why the hell would you agree to a sobriety test on a boat. Refuse the test and go to court. Besides that you went ahead and defied the police. You know the police don't like it when you tell them "I aint going to jail dog". On top of all that you got pepper sprayed. That is the funniest part. Hey maybe your lawyer can sue the police for damaging your non existent field vision. Great job Cedric. Obviously losing your job to Matt Forte is a possibility. What a Douche Bag....End.

New Faces....

I saw an interesting article over at the the News Tribune I thought I would share. I am a little concerned about how new the team is. Not just the players but the coaches too. I wonder, with all the changes, are the Hawks going to be in sync before the season starts? I like to think we have a lot of smart players and coaches who are very capable of learning this system. I do have to point out, the massive amount of changes made does not put the odds in great favor for us. Myself, being an optimist, I think we will adjust fine. We have a lot of talented veterans to help the new blood get comfortable with the tempo the Hawks like to generate. Only time will tell for sure. END.

New Life at Full Back Speed...

Full speed ahead; destination, fan favorite. Owen Schmitt; the new Full Back from West Virginia, acquired in the fifth round of the draft is on a fast track to stardom in Seattle. I love the fact this kid has broken or bent 11 face masks in his college career. I love that he was only held to negative yardage 4 times in his collegiate effort. I also love what is being said about him in the news in regards to his work ethic. usually you don't see a newly drafted rookie impress this much; especially this early. Owen has been called a "Runaway Beer Truck" and already has a moniker. The tag line being used for him is "Schmitt Happens". I love that shit. I use to use that line in high school when I drank to many Schmidts and puked my ass off. This guy is great. There is a great article by SCOTTJOHNSON over at heraldnet that really shines a light on Owen Schmitt. I think this kid will be the true replacement for Mack Strong. END.

Who shows out of the Pros...

With the rookies portion of the mini camps over it is time to focus on the veterans. At this point even a second year man is considered a vet simply because, they are no longer rookies. This of course is more of a second year player's point of view so that doesn't say much.

The question now is; who is going to show out in mini camps? We have a bevy of young receivers vying for a position on this field....i.e. Payne, Obamanu, Taylor and Kent. A couple of defensive players to battle out the rookies for a starting position...i.e. Mebane and Tapp. Lastly, I think one of the biggest changes in offense in Seattle since Holmgren singed here in 1999 has to be the running back round a bout and the hiring of Mike Solari. So...who is going to show out the best will it be a RB, DT, DE, WR, O-lineman?

There is loads of talk in the sports media(when they actually talk about Seattle) about the running backs shining this year for the Hawks. This I believe, but I would say the newly found virility of the offensive line coach and his staff will have a lot to do with it. Look for Mo Morris and Julius Jones to have a pretty hefty battle for the starting role. Two similar styles fighting for yards may prove for an exciting training camp and maybe even an exciting pre-season.
While veteran offensive linemen work their tale off to protect the runners; the will have to perform double duty to protect the face of the franchise...Matt Hasselbeck.

Formerly: CLUCKSFORHAWKS

That's right, I have changed the name from ClucksforHawks to the 12th hawk because I wanted this to be a fan generated discussion. Also, I wanted a change for the better since that was my first attempt at a blog period. I write free lance; that is to say that it is merely a hobby. None the less, I still have a passion for it. I will continue to try to bring to you the latest in Seahawk related news and discussion.

I will let this out now; if you want to contribute on a regular basis please e-mail me some sample posts. Thank you to all who commented on the previous site; unfortunately, I had to steer away from that first attempt at a legitimate blog. Well more work to be done and soon will be posting away some news for you to rap your eyes around. Enjoy the new site. END.

Hello all
