Mucho talk about Sanchez...

There has been speculation that Mark Sanchez will go to the Hawks at the #4 spot in the 2009 NFL draft. There has been further reports of Mark Sanchez having a cheerful visit with the Hawks and is going to continue to bounce around the country with a bevy of private workouts in D.C. and Denver. The theory has been beat to hell and back and I believe, as far as the Hawks are concerned, all the Sanchez "hype" is just that; hype. This is not a team in desperate need of a star QB, especially one that will command high dollar at #4 and possibly won't play for a couple of years. This is assuming Hasselbeck is going to be the starter. Why should we not assume Matt will be throwing here for the next three years? Whether or not Matt plays another couple of years can only be decided by the coaches but I think Matt is the franchise player and the face of this organization to not only the fans, but to the media as well. If one thing can be said about Tim Ruskell during the draft we know it would be his unpredictability with draft picks. With Ruskell, you never know until the end.

If we keep the fourth spot we go with an LT in Smith, that is if he is still available and/or Micheal Ohr if he isn't. Since the recent news of the Jason Peters deal with the Bills that will net the Bills three overall picks from the the Eagles, two in 09 including #28 overall and one in 2010. It should be interesting to see what negotiations will be made for the #4 spot and what teams will be negotiating. Other teams who have an immediate need for a QB, i.e. Redskins, San Fran etc... Then we have limitless possibilities with multiple first round picks if we trade down.

In light of all of this "usual hype" before the draft I still think the Hawks will attempt to solidify the offensive line by drafting a future replacement for Walter Jones. Knapp is a coach that believes in the run religiously. With this philosophy we can almost be assured the Hawks will continue to beef up the offensive line in order to carry out the plan in hand. Pun intended....The End.
